Journey of Resilience and Purpose 

Tlotliso Mapau, well-known Magazine Les.  Magazine Les is rapper, singer, songwriter. Tlotliso Mapau, born in Lesotho Maseru Mazenod Makhaleng, currently staying in South Africa Jhb.  From a young age he said, I faced the challenges of growing up without my biological parents, living instead with relatives. Life was difficult, and I had to work hard to survive. I spent my early years caring for livestock owned by others, often working for an entire year without a monthly salary—my compensation came only at the end of the year, usually in the form of animals.

My mother worked far from home and could only visit us once a year, during Christmas. Her absence left me with many unanswered questions and a deep sense of longing. Despite these hardships, I found strength in knowing she was working to support us.

Unfortunately, I was unable to complete my education. During winter, my family would send me to stay with relatives in other regions, where I was again tasked with caring for animals. This disrupted my studies and made it difficult to focus on schoolwork. Eventually, financial struggles and the inability to meet school fees forced me to drop out in Grade 8.

After leaving school, I continued working for others, caring for their animals for three years. Living alone during this time gave me space to reflect deeply on my life. I often asked myself, "Why am I living like this?" Though I found no immediate answers, I made a promise to myself: I would never give up until I achieved my dreams. I embraced the belief that “If you are not willing to risk the usual, you will have to settle for the ordinary.”

Despite the darkness I experienced, I chose to use my talents to transform my life. I came to understand that challenges make life interesting—and overcoming them makes life meaningful. Too many people live in fear, not realizing that dreams are not just what we see when we sleep—they are what we strive for when we’re awake.

In 2023, I began pursuing my passion for music. I embraced my identity as an artist and released my first song in 2024, titled "MODIMO NTHUSE." This marked the beginning of a new chapter in my life. I am deeply grateful for the support I’ve received from everyone who believes in me.
